Rudrakshas are the beads from trees belonging to elaeocarpus ganitrus roxb variety grown at select locations of southeas
tasia, rudraksha trees have interesting features . the leaves are like mango tree, seriated and petiolate. Flowers are
hermaphrodite and measure about 12mm in diameter and white in colour. About 300 species of elaeocarpus have been
reported so far out of which 35 are found in india. In the india sub-continent these trees are found mainly in Nepal, assam, arunachal, and near dehradun. Rudraksha is
specially identified as the ganitrus roxb rudraksha trees grow to a height of 60to 80 feet.
Every Rudraksha has cells or mukhis which differin numbers a facet is a line or a groove which runs from one end of Rudraksha
to the other end. Higher mukhi rudrakha from 15to 27 mukhis have also been found and in later centuries. There are other
rudraksha like gauri Shankar (two rudraksha naturally joined on the tree) ganesha (a rudraksha having trunk like protrusion on its body)

RUDRA:
Rudra is a form of shiva and it is a gana devta having eleven forms. The rudras are known as mrigvyadh, sarpa
mahayashasvee, nirriti, ajaikpaad, ahirbuhanya, shatru santaapan, pinaaki, dahan, kapaali, and sthanu. There are other
names given to rudra as per different scriptures. For example rudra is also known as har , bahuroop, tryambak, aparajit,
shambu, vrishakapi, kapardi, raivat, mrigvyadh, sharva and kapaali. This time he created sanak, sanandan, sanatan and
sanatkumar the four upperconscioussages.
Lord brahma became angry, his ego got hurt badly but he tried to control himself. Inspite of his best efforts, his feelings
came out in form of a blue-red child which came out from middle of his eyebrows. Then lord brahma, said while trying
to console the crying child please do not cry I shall fulfill your desires now. As you have started crying so differently,
immediately after birth you will be now known as rudra.
Your names will be namyu, manu, mahinas, mahan, shiva, ritwaj, ugra-reta, bhava, kaal, vamdev, and dhriturat, also
following eleven rudran is will be your wives dhee, vritri, ushana, uma, niyut, sarpi, ila, ambika, irawli, sudha and deeksha.

The Origin of Rudrakash
According to Chanda Puran, in ancient time there was a demon king named May in Pataal who was very brave and mighty. Once he throught to conquer the other regions and then with a fine planning he began attacks on man region, Gandharva-region and god-region also. He madw three cities on three different peaks of Himalayas. These three cities were prepared by gold, silver and iron.
These three cities were three forts actually and impenetrable. The demons were safe in these cities. They captured man, Gandharvs and Gods. Thus Gods began live in pits, caves and in deep forests. All they departed from their families, friends and spporters. In such a difficult time of sorrow and grief all the gods discussed themselves and went to Brahmaji, the creator of all. He told the gods that May is not only mighty but the time and fate was with him. Brahmaji adviced to go then to Lord Vishnu but Lord Vishnu also refused to help gods. After all, all of them with Brahmaji and Vishnuji went to Lord Shiva Shanker and requested him to save themselves from this great disaster. Lord Shiv Shanker listen to them and assured them.
Now all the gods and Shiv Shanker prepared for war. The earth was chariot, Brahmaji was charioter. the great Mountain Sumeru was bow and Lord Vishnu was the divine arrow. The war was terrible and at last Shiv Shanker burnt the three cities of demons. On that time Shiv was trampling.
After the destruction of demons all gods with Brahma. Vishnu and trampling Shiv Shanker reached on a peak to rest. Taking the rest Shiv Shanker became very happy and he began to laugh. By laughing with joy four drops of tear dropped on earth and after a time passed four sprouts grown. These srouts formed as Rudraksha-trees. The Rudraksha is the fruit of these holy-trees.
The Importance of Rudraksh-An Old Story
As Rudraksha is formed from the tears of Shiv Shanker so Rudraksha is regarded as Shiv Shanker himself. Its importance is much wonderful and much divine. There are many stories about this and one of them is here.
Once upon a time there was a brahmin named Devdutt lived in a village of Kerala. He was a scholar of Vedas and a master of all rituals. Unfortunately he bereaved with good, works and began doing sinful works such as torturing of helpless, relation with bad women, lying etc. The villagers driven off him from the village, then Devdutt reached to another village but he was not turned towards good, so he was driven off once again. Now nobody was ready to shelter him and he began to live in a jungle.
But Devdutt was busy with his sinful doings in that jungle also. For long time he wandered here and there and his death time came near. He fell on earth, became numb and then died.
According the death-rule the servants of Yamraj (the god of death) took him and ready to Yampur (the region of Yamraj). But inhere Devdutt fell on earth, there was a Rudraksha and that Rudraksha was touched with his head on the death-time. This incident made him to go to Kailash (the region of Lord Shiva). In this way, there began a war between Yamduts and Shivduts. Shivduts defeated Yamduts and took Devdutt to Kailash.

Rudraksha is the seed of the fruit of Rudraksha-tree. This seed occurs some threads naturallyand are called faces of that Rudraksha. These faces determine the worship or wearing importance of that Rudraksha. For example, if a Rudraksha-seed has four natural threads then it is called four-faced Rudraksha.

This has one natural thread. It is considered the best of all Rudrakshas. It is regarded as Lord Shiva himself. It is said that seeing of it destroys the sins then makes possible what is impossible if worshiped. It destroys or demolishes the sin of Brahma Matya (the murder of a Brahmin). This has two natural threads. This is believed to he the manifestation of Lord Shiva and Parwati themselves. You can please both Lord Shiva and Parwati by wearing this.
